Amenity Health, Inc. Receives Product Patent for MedCline Reflux Relief System

Utility patent issued for MedCline covering its unique features and method of positioning further solidifying company’s dedication to providing effective medical device products utilizing proven methods and backed by clinical trial data.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued a utility patent (#8661586) to Amenity Health, Inc. for its MedCline reflux relief system. The patent applies to the unique features of MedCline, as well as its method of positioning, which specifies sleeping on an incline and in a lateral side position. This issuance makes Medcline™ the only patented, on demand sleep positioning system available on the market today that combines these two strategies known to be effective at relieving nighttime acid reflux (GERD).

This patent comes on the heels of a successful independent clinical study conducted by The Medical University of South Carolina showing that when compared to a traditional bed wedge, those sleeping on Medcline™ experienced an 87% reduction in esophageal acid exposure when sleeping on the left side. Tests also showed a 38% reduction in nighttime acid reflux episodes. Finally, MedCline was also found to be 2x as comfortable.

MedCline is currently being utilized in another clinical study with Cleveland Clinic. This study aims to quantify health-related quality of life improvements when sleeping on MedCline, as well as accessing patients’ ability to decrease medication usage over time.

The utility patent, clinical trial results from The Medical University of South Carolina, as well as the forthcoming results from Cleveland Clinic puts MedCline in the unique position to offer acid reflux (GERD) patients a much needed treatment alternative to taking prescription and OTC medications, as well as invasive surgical procedures.

MedCline is a Class I Medical Device listed with the FDA and cleared for patient use. The system also meets the requirements of Section 125 of the IRS Guidelines to be classified as a FSA/HSA-approved medical expenditure. In some cases, insurance companies may cover MedCline (using HCPCS code E0190) though individuals need to contact their insurance companies directly to determine coverage.

Amenity Health, Inc. Now Accepts FSA Debit Cards for Online Purchases of MedCline Reflux Relief System

ust in time for GERD Awareness Week, acid reflux patients are now able to use their Flexible Spending Account (FSA) Debit Cards to purchase the MedCline Reflux Relief System online.

Hoping that potential customers won’t get caught by the IRS’s Flexible Spending Account’s (FSA) “use it or lose it” clause, Amenity Health, Inc. is now able to process FSA Debit Cards through the Medcline website – www.medcline.com. This ease-of-purchase capability enables those suffering from nighttime acid reflux to purchase the MedCline Reflux Relief System utilizing unused funds from FSA, Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) and Health Spending Accounts (HSA).

MedCline is the only comprehensive sleep positioning system available on the market today that combines two strategies known to be effective at relieving nighttime reflux – sleeping at an incline and on one’s side. An independent clinical study of Medcline™ conducted by The Medical University of South Carolina showed an 8x reduction in esophageal exposure compared to a traditional bed wedge and a 38% reduction in reflux episodes throughout the night. Medcline™ was also found to be 2x as comfortable as a traditional bed wedge. Amenity Health offers MedCline as an alternative treatment option of nighttime acid reflux to taking prescription and over the counter medications, as well as invasive surgical procedures.

The MedCline Reflux Relief System is a Class I Medical Device listed with the FDA and cleared for patient use. The system also meets the IRS Guidelines to be classified as a FSA-approved medical expenditure. Specific questions about eligible purchases within specific plans should be directed to each respective plan’s administrator directly. FSA participants who are not issued debit cards are also able to purchase Medcline products and submit for reimbursement through established plan procedures.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), also known as “Section 125 Plans” or “Cafeteria Plans”, were developed as part of IRS Section 125 to provide employees with tax relief for their un-reimbursed medical and dependent day-care costs. FSAs enable employees to utilize pre-tax dollars to save Federal, FICA, and, in most cases, state taxes when paying for eligible expenses not covered by traditional insurance plans. Some FSA and HSA plans offer a special debit card to access tax-favored spending accounts.
