October 2017 – Acid reflux symptoms are experienced in up to 80% of those with Parkinson’s Disease (PD), which can be induced by dyscoordination of various organs such as the mouth, pharynx, and esophagus. PD can also cause esophageal peristalsis and dysfunction in the lower esophageal sphincter. Treating the symptoms of acid reflux can significantly increase the quality of life of Parkinson’s patients so should be part of the treatment regime for such patients.
